5 Break Up Lines and the Truths Behind Them

No matter how diverse relationships are nowadays, there’s one thing that they all have in common; irritatingly vague break up lines...

“This is just moving too fast.”

Here’s what you need to know about falling in love; every one does it at a pace that is comfortable for them. What this means is there’s going to be times when you date someone who doesn’t run on the same romantic clock as you. Don’t blame them, it’s not anybody’s fault. Just move on and try to find someone who has the same ideas as you when it comes to commitment and relationships. Don’t worry, they’re out there somewhere.

“I just need time to work on myself.”

A healthy and strong relationship starts with two individuals who have a clear understanding of who they are and who they want to be. If the person you’re dating feels the need to break up in order to find themselves, then let them be. You know the old saying, “you’ve got to love yourself before you can love someone else”? Well, that rings true here.

“I’m just not good enough for you.”

Now doesn’t that make you want to throw up a little in your mouth? To be fair, this person is probably trying to make you feel better about the whole suckiness of the situation by painting themselves as undeserving of your godly love. The fact of the matter is, if they truly cared for you and they felt this way, they would have put in more of an effort to become good enough. But they didn’t. So, just let them play the victim and let it be.

“I’m just not ready to commit right now.”

You’ll hear this one from people hiding their true feelings about you behind having “commitment issues”. The fact of the matter is, if this person really wanted to be with you, they would be. Them using this line on you, is just them trying to spare your feelings. The truth is they’re just not that into you. Don’t be surprised if you see them move on to a new relationship almost immediately after the break up.

“It’s not you, it’s me.”

It’s you. Sorry to burst your bubble but I’m sure you were already well aware of this fact. This gem of a breakup line is commonly used by people who can’t find (or can’t be bothered to find) a solid reason to break up with you. And you know what I’d say to them? Good riddance, because you’re better off without wishy-washy, backboneless people in your life.

So there you have it, if you’re ever on the receiving end of any of these, just let it go and move on with your life. But if you ever find yourself at a loss for words when trying to break up with someone, try to stay away from these lines and just tell them the truth. Afterall, truth is the much kinder alternative.
